Why strength training matters after 40 and 50

As we age, we naturally lose muscle and strength, and that loss affects everything from climbing stairs and carrying groceries to balance and bone health. Strength training is how you fight back. Training with weights in a coached setting helps you build and keep muscle, supports your joints and bones, and improves balance and energy for daily life.

The key is doing it the right way. Unsupervised training with poor form is where people get hurt, and that is exactly what coached small group training avoids. At Temple Terrace Training, a coach is with you for every session, teaching the movements, choosing the right weights, and making sure your technique is sound.

How Temple Terrace Training works

You train in a small group of adults in your age range, and your coach runs the entire session. The workouts are built around strength movements that carry over to real life: standing up with confidence, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. Every exercise can be adjusted. If a movement does not suit your shoulders, knees, or back, your coach changes it. If you are ready for more, your coach adds it.

You progress at your own pace. Some members start having never lifted a weight. Others come back to training after years away. Nobody is asked to keep up with anyone else, and nobody trains alone or unsure. Your coach tracks your progress so you can see your strength build over the weeks.

The small group setting also means you train with people at the same stage of life, with the same goals. Members encourage each other, and for many people the group is what keeps them coming back consistently.

Meet your coach

MMFitness was founded in 2013 by owner and head trainer Micah Morgan, a former USF football player who has coached adults of all ages across the Tampa Bay community. Micah and the MMFitness coaching team lead Temple Terrace Training sessions and know every member by name, by goal, and by limitation. That personal knowledge is what makes the training safe and effective for adults starting later in life.

Getting started

Your first session is free, and there is no pressure attached to it. You will meet your coach, talk about your goals and any aches, injuries, or health concerns, and try a coached session at your level. After that, you can start with a 30 day trial for $90 for the first month. Memberships are $165 per month, packages are $180, and a weekly option is $50.

Sessions run during gym hours, which start as early as 4:30 AM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays and include morning options like the 9:00 AM training time. Book your free first session at mmfitnessgym.com/book or call (813) 548-3631. If you are over 40 or over 50 and want to get stronger with a coach guiding every step, this is a good place to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I too old to start strength training?
No. Adults in their 50s, 60s, and beyond start training at MMFitness regularly. Your coach starts you at your level, teaches every movement, and builds your strength gradually and safely.
I have never lifted weights. Can I join Temple Terrace Training?
Yes. Most members had little or no lifting experience when they started. Every session is coached, and exercises are adjusted to your ability from the first day.
What if I have aches, old injuries, or limitations?
Tell your coach about them. Exercises can be changed or swapped so you can train around sore joints and old injuries. If you have a medical concern, check with your doctor first, and your coach will work within your limits.
